05-01-2026 District Visit - Sagar, South 24 Parganas Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the Sagar Island, in South 24 Paraganas, on the eve of the upcoming Gangasagar Mela, one of the largest fairs of India. She laid foundation stone for the ‘Gangasagar Bridge’ to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and residents of Sagar Island. The four-lane bridge, approximately 5 kilometers long, would be built over the Muriganga River, she informed. In the coming days, the sacred pilgrimage to Gangasagar would become even more accessible and convenient, she added. As every year, she visited Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Kapil Muni's ashram to offer prayers. Hon’ble Chief Minister monitored the safety measures to ensure the well-being of all those attending the fair and to provide them with good services. She said that the fair would run from 9th to 17th January, 2026.
