She conferred the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Awards for the Best Director and the Best Film in the ‘International Competition: Innovation in Moving Images’ category. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the jury members, foreign delegates, and every member of film fraternity who have worked tirelessly to make this festival a grand success. She also congratulated all the awardees and to every artist whose work found a place in this global celebration of cinema.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee received Honorary D.Litt. degree from Japan’s Okayama University. Distinguished representatives from the prestigious Okayama University in Japan travelled all the way to West Bengal to confer the degree upon her. She thanked President Yasutomo Nasu, Prof. Masaharu Senoo, Prof. Toyohiko Watanabe, Daiki Nishiyama, Hiroshi Fukuda (Director General, Citizens Cooperative Bureau), Ayumi Okazaki, and Masakazu Moriyasu for their warmth, grace, and nobility. Hon’ble Chief Minister specially thanked to SNU Chancellor, Shri Satyam Roychowdhury, for his kind invitation and for fostering a meaningful academic collaboration between Sister Nivedita University and Okayama University. The partnership would open new frontiers for the students, teachers, and researchers of West Bengal and further deepen the ties of friendship between Bengal and Japan, she said.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated 110 fully-equipped Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) at Swasthya Bhawan. Each unit, staffed with doctors, nurses, and technicians, is a self-contained mobile clinic designed to deliver free diagnosis, consultation, and treatment right to people’s doorsteps. It would take advanced healthcare services to the remotest corners of West Bengal, she said. West Bengal government would remain firm in its resolve to continue serving every mother, every child, every family, and every citizen of West Bengal with the same compassion and commitment that define ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people’ philosophy.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the inauguration and foundation stone laying programme of developmental projects at Uttarkanya. That was her third time visiting North Bengal after the devastating flood and landslide. She extended assistance to the people, affected by recent floods for the reconstruction of their houses. North Bengal was slowly returning to normalcy after the devastating floods and landslides, said Hon’ble Chief Minister. West Bengal government provided crop seeds and necessary equipment to farmers affected by the floods and landslides. Besides, financial assistance was provided to 807 farmers of flood and landslide affected Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts to make agricultural land cultivable again. Compensation would be provided shortly under the Bangla Crop Insurance Scheme after the assessment of crop loss was completed, she assured. Hon’ble Chief Minister said that government would set up a total of 53 new health centres in the tea garden region of North Bengal. She inaugurated 15 new crèches for the children of tea garden workers. A total of 95 crèches was built so far, she added. Moreover, 10 bus services were also being arranged to ensure that children reach school safely. She informed that government took the initiative to build a cricket stadium named after World Cup winner and pride of Bengal, Richa Ghosh — which would become a source of inspiration for young sportswomen to fulfil their dream. Hon’ble Chief Minister stated that, West Bengal is one of the flood-prone states in India — about 43% of the geographical area of Bengal is affected by the effects of floods every year. She once again appealed to the Central Government to take simultaneous steps for regular monitoring, information exchange and flood management through the formation of an India-Bhutan Joint River Commission for a permanent solution.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended a special felicitation ceremony organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal at the Eden Gardens, honouring Richa Ghosh for her outstanding contribution to India’s World Cup victory. On behalf of the Government of West Bengal, she conferred upon her the ‘Banga Bhushan’, one of the state’s highest civilian honours. She also announced her appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the West Bengal Police. The presence of legends like Shri Sourav Ganguly, Smt. Jhulan Goswami, and other distinguished guests made the evening even more memorable, said Hon’ble Chief Minister.

Government of West Bengal, through its Information & Cultural Affairs Department, organises the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), a grand confluence of cinematic excellence and cultural exchange every year. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 31st edition of KIFF at the Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium. The programme was graced by eminent dignitaries, celebrated filmmakers, actors, and artists from across the globe. Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that 215 films, including 185 feature films and 30 short and documentary films, from 39 countries would be screened across 20 venues. The festival would showcase 18 Indian language films, including Bengali, and 30 films in foreign languages, she added. Being Poland as the Focus Country of the present year festival, Hon’ble Chief Minister expressed her hope to deepen the cultural bond between the two nations. Besides, she conferrred the Banga Bibhushan Award upon legendary singer Smt. Arati Mukhopadhyay and iconic actor Shri Shatrughan Sinha for their outstanding contributions to the world of music and cinema.
